Sunil Soni is a seasoned theatre practitioner, actor, performance maker and creative thinker from Narnaul, Haryana. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre from the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.
With extensive experience spanning over a decade, Sunil has been involved in devising, designing, directing and acting in more than 150 national and international theatre productions. His journey as a performer includes significant roles in productions such as Vitasta, A Virtuous Burglar and the mega musical theatre production Rajadhiraj, in which he plays the lead role of Kans Maharaj.
Sunil has performed at several prominent national and international theatre festivals and platforms, including Bharat Rang Mahotsav, NMACC, India Gate, the Asian Theatre Education Council Summit in Beijing, and the N.A.P.A. International Theatre Festival in Karachi.
Over the course of his career, he has worked with several eminent Indian and international theatre directors and practitioners. He has also conducted acting and theatre workshops across India, developing a teaching practice rooted in classical Indian theatre traditions such as Kutiyattam and the Natyashastra, while adapting these traditions to contemporary performance.
Alongside his extensive theatre career, Sunil has made his mark in television and digital entertainment. He has appeared in popular reality shows including India’s Best Dramebaaz, Sabse Bada Kalakar and India’s Got Talent. Sunil's achievements have been recognised through several honours, including the Inlaks Theatre Award, the Haryana Kala Praveen Puruskaar for Theatre (Acting), and the Junior Fellowship in Theatre awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
As part of his Ministry of Culture fellowship, he is researching the exploration of Ashadh Ka Ek Din in the Haryanvi folk theatre form of Swang.
At present, alongside touring with Vitasta the Opera in the lead role of Neel Nag, Sunil is working on other devised and musical theatre projects while continuing his research and development of Ashadh Ka Ek Din in Swang form.
